The doors by Resident Care are now unlocked during Resident Care business hours! No need to ring the bell!!!

A couple of reminders/requests:

  • Although the campus is opening up, we ask that you continue to schedule an appointment to see Resident Care rather than dropping in. Scheduled appointments help us to run efficiently.
  • Masks still must be worn inside the Resident Care office.
  • Medications can be picked up inside of Resident Care from 3:00pm – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday. We ask that you try to continue to utilize that time frame to pick your medications up. If you are in the building already, you may stop by to pick-up medications. Please do not come between Noon – 1pm.
  • Please give pharmacy at least 3 business days to refill your medication. The likelihood of your medication being ready before that is high, but, allowing 3 business days gives pharmacy the time to order your medications if it not in stock and it allows them the time to communicate with your ordering provider.
  • Staff members are just as anxious as you for things to get back to normal. We ask that you continue to show kindness and patience to us as we continue to navigate through any unforeseen obstacles.

This past year has been stressful on everyone. We have all faced difficult challenges and have been left feeling frustrated at many points. However, we have worked together and by doing so, it looks like we have reached the light at the end of the tunnel! Please continue to be vigilant. EMERGENCIES: In the event of a life-threatening emergency, dial 911 and activate our Crosslands emergency alarm system (buttons provided at bedside and in the bathroom). For other emergencies during work hours (Mon. – Fri. 8:00 am – 4:30 pm), call the Resident Care Department at 610-388-5634. For after work hours, on weekends and on holidays, use the Firbank emergency phone number: 610-388-1440.

Staff will make apartment visits in case of an emergency or when a special need arises.

There are times when a resident has a medical situation that is non-life-threatening but may need attention relatively quickly.  These situations can happen anytime and anywhere. While on campus, Resident Care can be utilized during business hours and Firbank can be utilized after hours. If you are out and about when an urgent medical situation arises, there are Urgent Care centers located relatively close to Crosslands. It is your prerogative to use an Urgent Care facility, however, we do ask that you follow up with our office with any paperwork that you were given so that we can update your medical records.

PERSONAL CARE ITEMS:

Since an emergency may result in having to stay in the health center or hospital, residents are urged to have a bag pre-packed with the following personal belongings: robe, slippers, sweater, undergarments, change of clothes, shoes, toothbrush and paste, comb or brush, reading material, and telephone numbers of persons who should be contacted.

PENDANT ALERT SYSTEM:

The Pendant Alert System adds an additional level of comfort for those residents whose medical conditions could make it difficult for them to summon help by phone or by the Crosslands emergency alarm system. This is an alarm alert, worn by the resident as a pendant, used to summon help. Request forms, along with detailed information for this system, are available at the Resident Care office.

SARA SYSTEM:

It is the philosophy of KCC to strive to the best of the communities’ ability to ensure that all independent residents are up and moving around in the morning hours by use of an automated wireless check-in system known as SARA. The system monitors individual cottages and apartments, not individual residents. The system will monitor the opening of the front door between the hours of 5:00 am – 10:30 am. If a resident opens their door between these hours the system will record the successful check-in. At 10:30 am those who have not successfully checked in by opening their front door will receive an automated phone call. Those who answer that phone call will be prompted to check-in by pressing the number 1 on their phone. If the check-in has not been completed successfully the resident will then receive a phone call from a resident care staff member. If there is no answer, maintenance will be dispatched to that apartment to make sure the resident(s) are ok.

If you are going to be away, please submit a form to the receptionist at the front desk in the main center with the information of the days that you will be away and when you should return. The receptionist will enter this information into the SARA system so that you will be removed from the check-in during that time period.

(Please bring prescription for blood draws before the day of your blood draw.)

TEST RESULTS:

Residents are notified verbally of ALL diagnostic and blood test results (normal and abnormal) by the Nurse Practitioner. These results are reviewed by the primary physician and then scanned into the resident’s electronic medical record.

All consultation forms will be reviewed by the Director of Resident Care and the primary physician before they are scanned into the resident’s electronic medical record.

Copies of test results will be provided to a resident when requested.

For all refills:

Please place empty bottles or a prescription refill sheet in the wooden box located on the wall to the left of the resident open mailboxes or in the wooden box in the hallway, outside of the Resident Care office. The pharmacy requests that you submit your refill order three business days before your supply will be depleted or before leaving on a trip (four days if your supply will run out over a long weekend). Newly ordered medications are usually dispensed the same weekday. Please do not call in your refill requests.

 WEEKLY MEDICATION SETS:

Weekly Medi-sets will be dispensed with medications for residents in need.

 INJECTIONS, WOUND CARE, BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC & CONSULTATION WITH STAFF:

 Monday – Thursday, 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm

IMMUNIZATION AND OTHER INJECTIONS:

Influenza vaccinations are offered each fall. Injections ordered by physicians are also administered. These include: Tetanus, Pneumovax, Lupron, Vitamin B-12, Special Intramuscular (IM) medication and others.

EAR WAX REMOVAL:

Ear wax removal is done by appointment only.

Residents receive a health review on an annual basis. A notice will be sent out by Resident Care with a date and time for both the Medical Review with a nurse and the Annual Wellness Exam with the resident’s Primary Physician.

On the date of the Medical Review a nurse will review your medication list, medical history and review and update emergency contact information and any other pertinent information to your healthcare. This information is not only helpful to us but is also necessary to comply with Medicare guidelines.

On the date of the Annual Wellness Exam the physician will conduct an overall physical assessment, review medications and order blood work and any diagnostic tests that they deem necessary.

 

Residents who are sick and unable to come to the dining room may receive a dinner tray in their apartment. Residents in need of this service should call the Resident Care Department at 610-388-5634before 2:00 PM each day they feel they need one. A dining room staff member will call the resident for a menu selection. Please state any food allergies, food intolerance and the need for a special diet. Residents may call Firbank at 610-388-1440 for a tray if ill on weekends or holidays.

Dates for off campus diagnostic testing and appointments for consulting physicians should be reported to the Resident Care Administrative Assistant. Consultation forms are provided to the resident to ensure communication between the consulting physician and the Resident Care department. The forms will be put in the resident’s open mailbox the evening before the test or appointment is scheduled. When necessary, transportation can be arranged.

TRANSPORTATION AND LIAISON:

Transportation to medical appointments that you have been referred to by Resident Care and that are within our servicing area (Chester County Hospital system,Crozer Hospital System,Riddle Hospital System and Jennersville Hospital)is arranged through the Resident Care office. Transportation fees will be covered by Crosslands for these types of trips. Slips for transportation requests can be found in the resident care waiting room and at the Main Center on the shelf under the resident bulletin boards. Requests for transportation should be made at least 3 business days in advance.

Transportation to off-site medical appointments that are not within our servicing are and/or are not referred to by our physicians but selected by residents are not scheduled by the Resident Care Office. If a medical service is provided at Kendal or Crosslands (such as Podiatry, Audiology, Dentistry) and you choose to go elsewhere, you are responsible for arranging transportation. Transportation fees for these trips will be charged to the resident. These arrangements may be made with the transportation department at 1-888-388-5602. Requests for transportation should be made as early as possible.

The Liaison Program was instituted and is run and staffed solely by resident volunteers. A liaison person accompanies residents who need assistance to medical appointments and are unable to find a friend or family member to go with them. Liaison provision depends on volunteer availability. The Resident Care Administrative Assistant will arrange fora liaison to go with those who need one.

Kendal Home Care offers additional services to residents of Crosslands, Cartmel, Coniston and Kendal at Longwood when daily activities become more challenging and life is more difficult than it needs to be.  Our Home Care provides extra support and assistance, allowing residents to make the most of everyday and maintain their health and independence.  Our array of services can be provided daily or on an intermittent basis.  The program is fee-for-service based – meaning it allows for one-to-one assistance charged at an hourly rate under a separate agreement.

Services can be delivered in increments of 15 to 30 minutes or by the hour.  Our program is unique in that family or friends may purchase Home Care, as a comforting gift for a resident member.
