MUSIC TIME COMMITTEE

Music Time is a Crosslands activity whose Mission is to enhance the lives of our community’s residents living in Skilled Nursing and Personal Care by creating an opportunity for them to participate in the singing of old familiar songs. We use the language of music to connect resident volunteers at Crosslands with residents living in Firbank and Audland. It is neither a performance nor entertainment, but rather a sharing of fun and love.

Music Time takes place in Penny’s Lounge on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday afternoons of each month. Jeri Iacono, Crosslands Life Enrichment Manager, facilitates the gathering of residents from Audland and Firbank for the event. Starting at 4:00 resident volunteers, accompanied by piano and banjo, sing a variety of old favorite songs for about 45 minutes. The aim is to stimulate these residents socially, touch their memories, and bring the great healers of happiness and laughter to their lives. Some may sing along joyfully, reading the lyrics on the song sheets that we provide; others may sing only a few words now and then; others may simply smile or move their lips as they mouth the words of familiar songs; and still others may sit silently showing no signs of engagement, and then suddenly sing a few words — all signs of the power of music to communicate with those who may be living with various debilitating illnesses.

All KCC residents (and guests) are always welcome to join, even if only occasionally or only for a single week. You do not need to memorize the words, as we provide sheets with the lyrics of all the songs.
